ABOUT US:
I Can Play! Was founded in 2003 to provide children an opportunity to further develop their
communication, play and social skills. There is a growing academic focus in the school setting
along with a decrease in the "arts and enrichment".  While we recognize the need for increased
academic strength. We also recognize the need for socially successful individuals. I CAN PLAY!
Provides
one on one in-home play based facilitation as well as social groups for children who
need more in depth social opportunities
.

Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is a unique blend of Applied Behavior Analysis, Floortime (play based) and
enthusiasm. We believe in following the lead of the child while providing the structure, parameters,
lessons and feedback for children to be successful. A well rounded program creates well rounded
learners. Every child has the potential to excel in social settings. We know how important
confidence, communication and social skills are for a child’s future. We also know how different
one learner can be from another. While it is important to identify individual needs we feel it is
equally important to identify strengths and interests. Centering our groups around the interest of the
children allows for a very natural teaching environment and built in motivation. Children should be
praised and taught according to their individuality. Reassurance, success and natural learning
environments create happy and independent children. Positive experiences along with positive
feedback lead to intrinsically motivated children.

Background & Training
+  Our foundation is in behavior analysis. We use behavioral tools such as the Three-term
contingency (ABC’s of behavior), task analysis, reinforcement, shaping, chaining and imitation. All
while taking into consideration the complexity of human behavior, mainly “individual differences”.
Pivotal Response Training and TEACCH methodologies are just a couple of the methodologies
used.
+  While behavior analysis is our foundation, our Floortime (relationship based model) training is
the key element that allows us to successfully facilitate healthy human development and assist in
our clients ability to acquire life long relationships. Understanding the concepts of regulation,
engaging/relating, intentional two way communication, social problem solving, creating symbols,
emotional thinking, triangular thinking, differentiated emotional thinking and a sense of self are vital
pieces of knowledge for child development facilitators. Recognizing the gleam in a child’s eye,
intrinsic motivation, novel ideas, the development of humor and connectedness is a skill only
experience and Floortime experience can provide

Our Hope
Creating healthy friendships is our primary goal. Our enrichment and social groups provide a
relaxed, structured, child centered, learning atmosphere. Each group is meant to provide a place
for children to make friends. We encourage families to expand their child's new friendships to
outings, play dates, birthday parties and home visits. We also encourage parents to keep in contact
outside of the groups after all life is about relationships.
